Philosophy

Dr. Winegardner is Board Certified in Family Practice and has more than 26 years of experience in urgent care and family medicine. She earned her BS in Biology from Converse College, graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina School of Medicine, and completed her family medicine residency in Charleston, South Carolina. She is married, has two grown children, and has lived in the Lake Norman area for more than 20 years.  In addition to her traditional approach to treating acute and chronic illness, she has over 17 years of experience in bio-identical hormonal health as it relates to Menopause and Andropause.  She is a member of the North American Menopause Society.  We look forward to serving all patients in the Lake Norman area including Huntersville, Cornelius, and Davidson.

Independant Physicians are the best value!

Why?  Because insurance companies negotiate lower contract rates with us which means less cost to your HSA/deductible.  Our contract reimbursement is often 30% to 50% less than hospital based practices.  Why? Large  practices must charge more to cover the cost of their large staffs and buildings.  Physicians in those practices are also under a lot of pressure to be more productive (e.g. see more patients) and may refer to specialists and imaging studies more quickly that a physician who sees fewer patients and has no special connection to a large medical facility.  Smaller is often better in primary care medicine!  Give us a chance to prove it!

Aging is a natural part of our lives. At some point in that aging process, our hormones may go out of balance or decline to a point where we lose our vitality and sense of well being. This condition commonly occurs as a woman goes through perimenopause and menopause.

Mood swings, depression, sleep issues, and irregular periods are some of the signs of early perimenopause.   The more classic symptoms come later such as hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, decreased libido, vague joint pain, osteoporosis, skin changes, and weight gain. These symptoms make this period of our lives less than ideal for us and our loved ones.

Good nutrition and an exercise routine go a long way but hormonal therapy may still be appropriate.  For some women, prescription pills containing synthetic hormones may help when used with caution for a short period of time. Some women may respond better to “bioidentical” hormonal options delivered to the body via creams or oral capsules customized for you by a physician and compounding pharmacy.
These are still good options but they do not offer the consistent delivery of the hormones your body may be lacking. I believe a more consistent delivery of hormones to your body can be achieved thru a “pellet” placed under the skin. This “pellet” contains a time released "bioidentical" hormone customized to address your symptoms. I truly believe this approach will improve a symptomatic woman’s quality of life.
The “pellet” concept is not new. There are a number of compounding pharmacies that make the "bioidentical" hormone pellet. We have chosen to partner with the one company that we believe makes the best quality pellet. BioTE Medical has demonstrated to us that their quality control and support is second to none.
Take the quiz below to see if you are a candidate for HRT. Watch the videos about the value of pellet delivery of HRT and how patients have responded to this treatment option.

Aging is a natural part of our lives.  In many cases, a man's testosterone levels will begin to decline in his 30's.  Low testosterone has numerous symptoms that might also be explained by other other health issues. It is important to ensure the underlying condition creating the symptoms is addressed before evaluating or treating less life threatening conditions such as erectile dysfunction, low libido, or loss in muscle mass (symptoms of low testosterone).

Good nutrition and an exercise routine go a long way in slowing the aging process.  But, for those men who have been evaluated and determined to be appropriate for testosterone therapy, there are various hormone therapies available.

Creams, gels, tablets and injectable testosterone are often prescribed to address testosterone deficiencies.  There are several problems with these methods of hormone delivery.
The first is the inconsistency in how the testosterone enters the body. Creams, gels, tablets and injectables are not consistent in their delivery which create there own side affects. The second is cost. Many pharmaceutical companies charge a high price for this medication. Insurance companies have responded to this cost by creating barriers for patients thru special authorization protocols. The result is a very frustrating experience for the medical provider and patient. It is also very expensive for the patient.
Dr. Winegardner believe's a more consistent delivery of hormones to your body can be achieved thru testosterone “pellets” placed under the skin. This “pellet” contains a time released "bioidentical" hormone customized to the patient's needs. The "pellet" may even be less expensive than it's pharmaceutical equivalent.agraph
